This

Day 1 - Lukla to Namche
June 15th 2005

Highest Altitude: 3440m
Time Taken: 5 hours
Tea House Cost: Rs 100, one night
Dinner Cost for 2: Rs 400
After a 6am flight from Tribhuvan Airport (delayed until 7:15am due to weather conditions), we arrived in Lukla at 8am, ready
for our adventures to begin!! We made our last phone calls back to Australia (Very expensive - Rs 200 per minute!), were pointed
in the right direction by the locals, and ambled through the mountain village of Lukla, stopping at the edge of town at a large
prayer stone covered in white Buddhist scarves, praying for a safe journey ahead. The air was fresh, the paths were clear, and
we walked quickly, following the dudhi koshi (milk/white river) around the contours of the hills. For aspiring engineers, the
trek from Lukla to Namche is suspension bridge heaven, we lost count of how many we saw, but crossed 10 in total! There was lots
to keep us occupied, yaks with earrings (charigai), lots of beautifully carved Tibetan stones (we always kept to the left), before
the final (steep) ascent to Namche.
